SAVVY SHOPPERS WILL SHOP SEASONALLY THIS SUMMER
As iconic cookware brand Le Creuset launches its new seasonal colour range in kiwi green, it has surveyed the nation to discover if buying in-season produce is as much in vogue as updating the look of your kitchen come summer or winter. The results revealed that whilst the idea of eating 'in-season' appeals, in reality we have not quite got to grips with our greens; in fact, although one third of respondents believe it is important to buy seasonal fruit and veg a shocking 33%, believe the subtropical kiwi to be a British summer fruit!
Some interesting statistics the survey unearthed are:
-
72% of us do not know that asparagus is a spring vegetable
-
63% did not realise that broccoli is in-season during the summer
-
41% thought that one of the our favourite summer yields, tomatoes, were grown during the UK's autumn and winter
-
8% of people from Leicester wrongly believed in-season to mean 'fashionable/trendy'
-
22% of people from Sunderland, and 21% of those from Coventry wrongly believed in-season to mean that fruit and vegetables are 'the perfect shape and colour'
-
When asked what fruit best sums up Britain, 52% said strawberries
-
59% thought the vegetable that best sums up Britain is the potato
Says Zeynep Ucan, Head of Cast Iron Marketing, "from satin blue to kiwi green, Le Creuset has launched a number of seasonal colours that have gone down a storm. Coupled with farmers markets championing in-season produce, it would appear 'seasonal' cookware and eating is the latest trend. That is why we thought it would be fun to survey the nation to discover just how clued up we really are. Our findings showed that although we think eating seasonally is important, there is still a lack of knowledge when it comes to really knowing our winter roots from our summer greens."
